I noticed this cookbook amid the Clearance/Bargain Prices books on the Barnes and Noble display. I had never seen a cookbook with this concept - "make it yourself" recipes covering a wide range of food items. I've seen individual books devoted to pickling, jams/jellies, salad dressings, sweets, etc. However this book has so many different recipes all together in one book. I really liked that it had everything from marinades to marshmallows. I really liked that it had everything from marinades to marshmallows. It is not a bound book, but a 3 hole-punched notebook format. I actually like the format, because I could take out the one recipe and leave the rest of the bulky book safe on the shelf. Would I have bought it at full price? I'm not sure. It was wrapped in plastic to prevent people from taking the pages out/pages falling out, so I bought it based on the BHG brand and the concept. I could not browse the cookbook before buying it. ...more

Pictures of Recipes? Yes.
Commentary on Recipes? No.

Recipe style? Stuff you'd find in any Better Homes and Gardens book, plus lots of homemade versions of commonly purchased foods.
Any keepers? Not really.
I feel like I've seen most of these recipes before, from other BH&G books. Some of the homemade versions of store-bought foods were interesting, but require way more time and effort than I'm willing to give. I work full time, plus I have a kid, so I really don't see the need t

Lots of really cool homemade recipes in here I plan to try out... but most of the recipes still didn't fit very well into the new clean eating we are trying to do at home right now. I would have to still make a lot of substitutions for all-purpose flour and sugars mostly... but a really cool starting point, and definitely better for us than buying these things from the store. I'm excited to try out a lot if these recipes. This is a book for people who enjoy role playing. The gardens are not different. But the reader would be instructed it is better. With "better" as a placeholder for the player's desires. In other words: whatever you might want to put there.

Else, it is a mockery. Oh, how natural and raw things are. Than add a cup of granulated sugar and voila! The magic is working. And the player can assume it's the home grown apples instead of the industrial product called sugar.

Oh, this was fun to look through and dream about. Ever wanted to know how to make tater tots? Pop tarts? fruity syrups and jams and pickled things? Crackers? Cheeses and flavored butters? This is the book to read! There's images for nearly every single recipe and the authors make everything sound so doable. I have so many gotta make /that/ bookmarks. I may have to buy myself a physical copy. :-) Oh, this was fun to look through and dream about. Ever wanted to know how to make tater tots? Pop tarts? fruity syrups and jams and pickled things?
